The Montreal Alouettes on Thursday extended defensive lineman Mustafa Johnson’s contract for one additional year. The 2025 contract that Johnson signed with the team extends his stay through 2026.

“Mustafa is one of the best players at his position, and we’re thrilled that we were able to get him under contract for an additional year,” Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia said.

“Not only is he one of our key players on defence, he’s also an important leader in our locker room. He is about to enter the prime of his career, and we feel he’ll only continue to get better.” Danny said.

The Alouette defensive end has earned 96 tackles plus 15 sacks along with one touchdown throughout his 40 career games.

Jhonson played in five playoff matches where the Alouettes defeated Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2023 Grey Cup final.

During his 18-game season in 2023 the East Division All-Star maintained a sack total of seven alongside 47 tackles.

Johnson attained his first professional touchdown during the 2023 season when he picked up a fumble and scored on a return during the game against the Edmonton Elks on October 14th.

“I am glad to be back with the Alouettes. I feel like Montreal is my home and I appreciate the confidence that the team puts in me,” Jhonson said.

During his time at Modesto Community College in 2017 the 26-year-old American started and played one season where his statistics included making 58 tackles (35 solos, 23 assists) while achieving 13 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks and a single forced fumble in the Pirates’ 11 games.

Johnson played 35 games with the Buffaloes during 2018-21 while racking up 121 tackles (65 solo and 56 assisted) and 31 tackles for loss and 17 sacks with a single forced fumble and two recovered fumbles. During his Pac 12 career he received All-Pac 12 mention two times.
