Argentina won the 2024 Copa America after beating Colombia 1-0 in extra time in the 2024 Copa America final which was held at the Hard Rock Stadium, Florida, Monday (15/7). Lautaro Martinez became Argentina’s hero when Lionel Messi had to come off in the 66th minute due to injury.
Lionel Messi cried after being unable to continue the match due to injury in the 64th minute when Argentina played Colombia in the 2024 Copa America final.
In the 64th minute, Messi lay on the field asking for medical help because he suffered an injury to his thigh after being tackled by Luis Diaz.
Messi was unable to continue playing due to injury. Messi was replaced by Nicolas Gonzalez in the 66th minute.
When Messi had to be replaced, several Argentina fans in the stands were seen crying. Even Messi cried as he walked to the bench after being forced to not continue playing in the 2024 Copa America final.
Messi also slammed his shoes because he was emotional because he couldn’t continue playing. Even a few minutes later, Messi was still seen sobbing on the bench.
It is believed that Messi broke down in tears because the Inter Miami player could not help Argentina more in the final. Moreover, this will almost certainly be Messi’s last Copa America event as a player.
In the 75th minute, Argentina was actually able to break into Colombia’s goal through Nicolas Gonzalez’s shot. However, the referee disallowed the goal because Nicolas was caught offside.
In the 87th minute, Nicolas Gonzalez’s header after continuing Di Maria’s also narrowly deviated to the left side of the Colombian goal.
Until the second half ended, neither team had scored a goal. The score was 0-0 at the end of the second half, making the Argentina vs Colombia match go to extra time.
