Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has made it clear he does not want to play in the Club World Cup, even though different teams tried to sign him.
Ronaldo is set to leave Al Nassr in this June. But he has expressed that he isn’t sure will accept any possible offers.
“There has been plenty of from clubs, I see things that make sense, others that don’t.” Ronaldo said.
“You can’t go to all of them, you have to think short, medium and long term. It’s something that’s practically decided on my part, which is not to go to the Club World Cup, but I’ve had plenty of invitations.” Ronaldo added.
Al Nassr sporting director Fernando Hierro has confirmed they were in discussions with Ronaldo about extending his contract, but other clubs interested in him were making it difficult.
Ronaldo’s late goal gave Portugal a 2-1 win over and also earned them a spot in the final at Munich’s Allianz Arena on Sunday.
During the first 10 days of June, there is a special transfer window in place so that the 32 teams involved in the FIFA Club World Cup can add players to their roster.
There was no chance for Al Nassr to take part in the Club World Cup, while Al Hilal qualified for it.
According to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, plans are underway for Ronaldo to compete at the extra summer tournament in the United States that kicks off on June 14.
“And Ronaldo might play for one of the teams as well at the Club World Cup.” Infantino said.
“There are discussions with some clubs, so if any club is watching and is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup, who knows, who knows.” Infantino added.
