Gregoria Mariska Tunjung is confirmed to be absent from strengthening the Indonesian bton team at the 2025 Sudirman Cup which will take place at the Fenghuang Gymnasium, China, from April 27 to May 4.
The certainty of Gregoria’s absence was revealed by the Head of the Development and Achievement Division of the All Indonesia Bton Association, Eng Hian, in an official statement on Tuesday (22/4) morning.
“Gregoria Mariska Tunjung canceled her departure for the 2025 Sudirman Cup after being declared by the doctor to have vertigo. Gregoria must rest completely for several days to recover her condition,” said Eng Hian.
Gregoria’s condition to strengthen Indonesia in the 2025 Sudirman Cup has been in doubt in the last few days. Jorji was even absent when the All Indonesia Bton Association held a simulation at the Cipayung National Training Center, Jakarta, Monday (21/4).
As a replacement for Gregoria, who is Indonesia’s first women’s singles, the All Indonesia Bton Association has chosen Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo.
“In accordance with the approval from BWF, Gregoria’s position will be replaced by Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo. With this player change, the first women’s singles for the Indonesian team is filled by Putri Kusuma Wardani and Ester becomes the second women’s singles,” said Eng Hian.
“Who else besides Ester, is there anyone else? But they keep practicing. In the sense that there is a match or no match, they have to be ready at any time,” said Taufik Hidayat.
“It’s not a month of practice, a month of not. It continues. It’s not a doctrine, it means they have to be ready. There is a match or no match, they practice with the same portion.”
Regarding Ester’s readiness, Taufik did not doubt it. Every player, he said, has been prepared to appear in the prestigious event. Every player is also very aware of the situation.
“So there is a sudden match, especially this team event, we have prepared for a long time too. We have prepared who will step up if there are any obstacles. It has been thought about.”
“If something happens in the Sudirman Cup tomorrow, there is already a reserve. There are other women’s doubles too. Yesterday we also got it from BWF. This is the best,” said Taufik.
Indonesia is in Group D of the 2025 Sudirman Cup with Denmark, India, and England. Indonesia’s first match will take place on Sunday (27/4) against England.
