Ballon d’Or is usually an award to be received by either Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Kylian Mbappe is ambitious to seize it in the future. Not yet the equal of Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi, who have shared the past 10 Ballon d’Or awards, the teenage wonder has a good chance to dethrone the pair in December despite the fierce competition from the likes of Luka Modric and Antoine Griezmann, who are also among the favorites.
The Paris Saint-Germain star blatantly expressed his desire to win the Ballon d’Or someday, after becoming the star of his team’s victory in the ninth weekend in Ligue 1. The young French striker made four goals in the space of 13 minutes when Les Parisiens crushed Lyon 5-0 at the Parc des Princes on Monday (8/10/2018). Another goal was contributed by Neymar. The Brazilian star Neymar, described Mbappe as a ‘phenomenon’ and hope he will continue like that for several years.
Being interviewed after the match, Mbappe, who few months ago won the Best Young Player award in the 2018 World Cup in Moscow, Russia, still has ambitions to become the best individual player through the Ballon d’Or.
“Ballon d’Or, why not? I don’t rule out anything,” he told FourFourTwo. “I will continue to progress, to play. If it comes, it comes and if it does not come, no problem.” Mbappe himself is the youngest player in the last 45 seasons who was able to score four goals in one Ligue 1 match. Thanks to his goals, PSG are now at the top of Ligue 1 with an eight-point difference from their closest competitors.
As for PSG, a 5-0 victory over Lyon led them to their ninth straight victory in Ligue 1 this season. The record made Thomas Tuchel’s team set a separate record. As reported by AFP, PSG apparently became the first team to wipe out nine of their first Ligue 1 matches with a victory. They sured Olympic Lillonis who only won in the first eight games in 1936. Now PSG are still top of the table with 27 points, eight points ahead of Lille in second place.
