The South Korean Volleyball League all-star match was officially canceled due to the Jeju Air plane crash.
This news was conveyed by the South Korean Volleyball Federation on Monday (30/12).
“It is a very difficult situation to organize the All Star Game which must be held in a festive atmosphere during a time of national mourning when the entire nation is mourning the plane crash that occurred yesterday,” read the South Korean Volleyball Federation statement.
“We are also considering ways to proceed calmly by refraining from events and cheers,” the South Korean Volleyball Federation wrote.
The South Korean Volleyball Federation considers that in this mourning situation it is not appropriate to hold an All Star match.
“We decided that it did not fit the meaning of the All Star game, where everyone should laugh and have fun together with the fans,” the South Korean Volleyball Federation wrote.
Before deciding to cancel, the South Korean Volleyball Federation considered postponing the All Star Game for 2 to 3 weeks.
“We have carefully reviewed the option to postpone the All Star Game for 2-3 weeks, but this also creates many difficulties due to the complexity of adjusting each club’s match schedule and stadium rental problems,” wrote the South Korean Volleyball Federation.
“Once again, we express our deepest condolences to the victims and families left behind by this disaster,” wrote the South Korean Volleyball Federation.
Apart from that, Red Sparks also postponed the prize distribution event at this home match.
“In addition, we would like to postpone the December home game attendance drawing [door prize] and MVP award ceremony, which was scheduled for the home game on December 31, to the home game on January 18,” wrote Red Sparks.
“We ask for understanding and generosity from our fans. Once again, we pray for the repose of the souls of those who ed away and express our deepest condolences to the bereaved families who must be in unbearable sadness,” wrote Red Sparks added.
